The festival takes place every year in June and Chaucer College has been closely involved since it was launched in 2007. This year we offered the local community performances of traditional Japanese music, with performances from drums and a flute as well as the Soran Bushi, a dance showing the struggle of Japanese fishermen against the elements. There was an opportunity to experience traditional skills such as calligraphy (write your name in Japanese) and origami, both of which proved very popular. The people of Folkestone were very appreciative of the hard work put in by our students and had some very interesting tales to tell of their connections to Japan!
